    Nobody gets this
    sudden self awakening
    they were never really asleep.
    When a mother feels life
    slipping away from
    her fingers, she
    holds close hope like a
    breaking flower.
    she watches the fragile
    petals weeping
    in a beautiful death
    Nobody has a self awakening
    We're all exhausted
    insomniacs painfully aware
    of each moment
like a poor man counting pennies.
    lost a twenty
    between the sewer vents
    it trickled down down
he tried so hard to get it
but the passersby laughed at him
    tearing at the street
    as tires kick trash
    in his face.
    "someone give me a hand"
    says the dreamer
    lost in a cement land
"I just need someone to talk to
    because everyone's eyes are
    dried up and deserted."
    and he is told
    "You're not dreaming
    and you will never rest."
    Wide-open eyes,
    brains like computer chips
    with a stand-by emotional button
oh you can switch it off
    you can switch it off
just make sure it don't come back on
The wife can't have an awakening
as she's sleeplessly counting the minutes
her lover is painting some corner red....
